Thomas Silvera is a passionate advocate, healthcare professional, and co-founder of the Elijah-Alavi Foundation, dedicated to advancing food allergy and asthma awareness, education, and policy change. His commitment stems from both personal experience and profound loss.
Born and raised in New York, Thomas has lived with asthma and multiple severe food allergies since childhood, giving him firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by those managing these conditions. His advocacy intensified after the tragic passing of his son, Elijah-Alavi, in 2017 due to an anaphylactic reaction at a daycare center. This devastating event led Thomas and his family to push for critical legislative changes, including Elijah’s Law, which mandates allergy safety training in childcare facilities.
Thomas’ oldest son, Sebastin, also lives with food allergies and is on the autism spectrum, further reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and education in allergy management. His personal and professional journey has made him a leading voice in ensuring that all children, regardless of background, receive the care and protection they deserve.
