Today, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), it's Kids With Food Allergies, a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (KFA) and the Elijah-Alavi Foundation Inc. (EAF) released the “Child Care Policies for Food Allergy: Elijah’s Law Report for the U.S. States and Territories.” aafa.org/ElijahsLaw
The report reviews state and territory child care licensing regulations against 9 policy standards. The standards aim to protect children with food allergy in a child care setting. The report also includes toolkit to help people advocate for Elijah’s Law across the country.
Elijah’s Law is a bill named in memory of Elijah Silvera. On November 3, 2017, 3-year-old Elijah died after having a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) at his child care facility. The facility did not follow emergency protocols to treat anaphylaxis.
One preventable death of a child with food allergy is one too many. Join AAFA and EAF in our advocacy to make sure all children with food allergies are safe and protected in child care settings.
