Updated: Sep 21, 2021

Elijah's Law, also known as the Childhood Anaphylactic Policy Act (HB0102), was signed into law by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on August 20, 2021. This legislation, which represents a watershed moment in the knowledge of food allergies, requires that childcare centers and schools develop standards and give training to recognize and avoid the danger of anaphylaxis in children and young adults. This crucial piece of legislation was passed in New York in 2019 and is now being implemented in Illinois, making it the second state in the United States to do so.

Pennsylvania HB1259 know as Elijah's law will be the third bill that has been submitted and is ready for the legislation session which begins in September.

“Daycares and childcares centers are being overlooked,” and that this is common across

each states. Now In Illinois, with the bill passed, we hope to see the Department of Health, the Department of Children and Family Services and the Board of Education – everybody – jumping on board to make sure that, this is set in stone and that these centers adopt these policies.
