If your asthma inhaler is not working as it should, it is important to take the following steps:

  1. Check your inhaler technique: Make sure you are using your inhaler correctly, as improper technique can decrease its effectiveness. Review the instructions provided by your healthcare provider or the manufacturer, or ask your healthcare provider for a demonstration.

  2. Check the expiration date: Make sure your inhaler is not expired, as expired medications may not work effectively.

  3. Make sure the inhaler is not empty: If you are not getting any medication from your inhaler, it may be empty and need to be replaced.

  4. Check for blockages: Make sure the mouthpiece of the inhaler is not blocked, as this can prevent the medication from being delivered properly.

  5. Check the storage conditions: Ensure that you are storing your inhaler properly, as exposure to heat, cold, or humidity can affect its effectiveness.

  6. Consult with your healthcare provider: If you are still experiencing problems with your inhaler, talk to your healthcare provider. They may recommend a different type of inhaler, a different medication, or a different dosing schedule.

If your asthma symptoms are worsening despite using your inhaler as directed, seek medical attention immediately as this could be a sign of an exacerbation and may require additional treatment.

If you have any questions or concerns about how to use your asthma inhaler, talk to your healthcare provider. Proper inhaler technique is important for maximum effectiveness and to avoid potential side effects.
